Article on the Éist Centre’s Prostate Cancer Survivors Programme

December 14th, 2016 by

A recent article published in The Carlow Nationalist Newspaper and on The Irish Cancer Society’s Website about the Éist Centre’s Prostate Cancer Survivors Programme.

Nick, Liam and Patrick all have 2 things in common: they are all prostate cancer survivors and they all found support at the Éist Cancer Support Centre Carlow thanks to funds raised through the Irish Cancer Society and Movember Foundation Ireland.

Éist is one of a number of cancer support services affiliated to the Irish Cancer Society that run a Prostate Cancer Psychosocial Education Programme, funded by Movember. The programme brings together men in an honest, open environment and provides a support system and forum where medical information, guidance and advice can be shared around men’s prostate cancer journeys.

“You need to be able to talk to someone or else you’ll go nuts,” said 47-year-old Nick, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in January 2013.

“Anyone who came in here (to Éist) made the step to come and they never regret it. We talk about everything here and, really, who I feel sorry for are the men who haven’t come in here, who are sitting at home in silence and don’t have anyone to talk to.”

Eist Help Us Climb This Mountain Thank You Evening

September 23rd, 2016 by

The Eist Cancer Support Centre held its ‘Help Us Climb This Mountain’ Thank You Evening on Tuesday last, the Climbers Rev. Peter Tarleton, Ben Condell, David Willoughby, Thomas Neale and Dick Murray scaled the 5,000 metres to the top of Mount Kenya in July of this year and in doing so raised a fantastic €41,000 for the Eist Cancer Support Centre. The climbers left Ireland in early July and reached the peak on July 16, which coincided with Rev. Peter’s 70th Birthday. All involved with the Eist Cancer Support Centre wish to sincerely thank our climbers who personally funded the complete cost of the trip, to all of our ‘Friends of Eist’ – everyone who supported the event, local businesses, schools, clubs, the local community and clients.

This amazing footage of the climb up Mount Kenya was taken by one of the Eist Climbers Ben Condell.
